Joy Division emerged from the Punk movement of the late 1970s as one of the most important and influential bands of that time. Their success built the foundations on which Factory records was built; Factory being the first independent label outside of London to have commercial and critical success. Joy Division being the first great Manchester band were the start of a wealth of musical talent to emerge from Manchester in the 80s and 90s, and are influential even today.
Great rock music is always built with strong emotions, intensity, honesty and humanity, and that's why Joy Division are so important. Unknown Pleasures, named after the group's first album, were created out of a passion for the music and an uncanny ability to sound like the original band. They aim to bring back to life the dark intensity of the music of Joy Division to fans who are already there and introduce the music to people who have not heard it before. Unknown Pleasures will tear you apart, so "listen to the silence, let it ring on".
